Web Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While participating in web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
