Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
