Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
