No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
