Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
