Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the last game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
