Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
