Online Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve last game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While competing in online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
