Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
