Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha/8 starts like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of wagering follows in which players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering ensues and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of entrants can get flustered. Unlike Hold’em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same notion in just about every poker game.

A lower hand is more complex, but really free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

While it seems complicated initially, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the base nuances of play easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi-low offers an exciting collection of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have several individuals trying for the high hand, as well as a few trying for the low. If you enjoy a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
