Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he liked gambling on different card games at a young age. He found himself getting very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York City to play some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he would play many hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He made some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he could improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to acquire more rest and focus even more on the game.

The real improvement in his game happened when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently challenge one another. He had access into a number of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, Howard would sharpen his cunning thinking abilities. Howard used these strategy concepts in the game of NL texas hold’em.

Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a great student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the proper choice. He told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. She is one of the strongest women players the poker arena ever. Howard Lederer headed to Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the subsequent 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
